Microsoft vice-president Phil Spencer and his team are in Japan and they’re discussing the future of gaming with “amazing studios and publishers.” (via WccfTech).
Great to be back in Japan with the team talking and listening to amazing studios and publishers about 2020 and beyond. Really strong energy and excitement here about gaming’s future.

Good ol’ Phil. This is simultaneously a lovely compliment and an intriguing nugget of info for the next generation of gaming. Phil and the gang travelled to Japan and Korea in March 2019, and though we don’t know what occurred behind the closed doors of Japanese developers and publishers, there is speculation that the addition of Yakuza games to Xbox Game Pass came from those discussions. Also, Doug Bowser is in Japan at the moment too. That’s a coincidence, I’m sure, but it would be cool if the two industry bosses chatted about the possibilities of collaboration.
Rare week in which the head of Xbox and president of Nintendo of America @thetruebowser are in Japan at the same time. https://t.co/iW2cILwMK3

Given the appearance of the Yakuza series and the Final Fantasy series on Xbox Game Pass, it would be expected that Spencer continues his conversations with Sega and Square Enix. Panzer Dragoon remakes on the Xbox Series X? Persona PC ports? Something totally out of the blue? We won’t know for a while yet. But, it is interesting. Watch this space.
