Phil Spencer has been speaking on the possibility of Xbox continuing with the Killer Instinct beat-em-up series.
Talking on the latest episode of the Dropped Frames podcast (spotted by Video Games Chronicle) Spencer spoke on the series that we’ve not seen much from since its relaunch with the Xbox One. He said “The response when we redid KI at the launch of Xbox One was fantastic.”
Spencer said he’d spoken “many times” with Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty about the series. “It’s in our hearts and in our minds that we want to continue to do something with KI,” he added. “It’s about finding the right team and the right opportunity but it is not due to any kind of lack of desire on our part that we’re not doing more with KI because we love the franchise and the community response.”
The previous version of Killer Instinct launched with the Xbox One in 2013, and was still kept up to date with new content and season drops as late as 2017. While originally created by Sea of Thieves developer Rare, development on the reboot was mostly handled by Double Helix until they were merged into Amazon in 2014. Divekick creators Iron Galaxy took over soon after and would subsequently launch two further “seasons” of content.
