Universal Studios’ Super Nintendo World theme park will be open to the public in spring 2020, and will include Super Mario Kart and Yoshi’s Adventures rides in its Tokyo park (via Attractions Magazine).

CEO of Universal Parks & Resorts Tom Williams revealed the news during the Comcast Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference. The Tokyo Super Nintendo World theme park is planned to open next spring, coinciding neatly with the Summer Olympics in Japan. The park will have two rides to begin with in Phase One; a Super Mario Kart ride and an omnimover Yoshi’s Adventures ride.

‘It’s the best, and we’ve tested them all, and they’re killers. It’s a great lineup. It takes it to the whole next level. It’s gonna redefine what a park experience is like. It really is special,’ Williams explained what’s in store for Super Nintendo World. I’ll believe it if I can red shell my competitors IRL. The Yoshi omnimover ride will use different coloured Yoshis as its vehicles, and tour the park in its entirety from Peach’s Castle to the Mushroom Kingdom. There might even be a Piranha Plant that swipes at the ride as the attendees disembark.

Most interesting is the interactive feature in Tokyo’s Super Nintendo World theme park. Guests will be provided with a bracelet that tots up points for interacting with the park and going on the rides. Ths total will be sent ‘back with your game console so you can build on it and come back again,’ meaning that there could be a new Switch game that ties in with the park adventure. Nintendo is no stranger to innovation, and it’s just unveiled the Ring Fit Adventure, its new fitness game that has players squeezing, balancing, and sprinting on the spot with a flexible Switch peripheral.

Super Nintendo Worlds for Orlando, Hollywood, and Singapore are planned as well, but there is no firm confirmation on when these parks will open.
