The Last of Us Part II will not be launching in February and will instead be delayed until the spring of next year, according to sources who contacted Kotaku.
Only one month ago, Sony and Naughty Dog revealed that The Last of Us Part II would be released for the PlayStation 4 on February 21, 2020. We had an inkling that it would be set to launch in that time frame, but it was nice to have it confirmed proper. Yet, two individuals close to the project have told Kotaku that the game has been pushed back by Sony. It’ll come out in the spring of 2020 instead, they claimed.
Looks like we might hear some unexpected news about a Sony first party title soon.

Sony has not responded to Kotaku’s request for a comment but Kotaku seems confident in their sources. It is odd to announce a delay so soon after an official confirmation of the game’s release date. However, industry analyst Daniel Ahmad cryptically tweeted that ‘unexpected news about a Sony first party title’ would be heading our way. This is unexpected, it’s news, and The Last of Us Part II is a first-party title for Sony. It fits the bill, but we’ll have to wait until Sony formally acknowledges the rumour of a delay.
If The Last of Us Part II’s launch has shifted slightly later than expected, it’s not the end of the world. It gives Naughty Dog more time under lessened pressure to work on the game and ensure it’s a sequel worthy of the critically-acclaimed original.
