Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s next fighter could be a Tales of Symphonia character

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fans think they’ve sussed out the fifth DLC fighter coming to the game, through a tweet from a prominent Tales of Symphonia voice actor (via Game Rant).

Although players won’t see their favourite movie superheroes in Smash, the crossover fighting game is crammed with characters from all kinds of video game series. Joker of Persona 5 was the first DLC hero, followed by the appearance of Dragon Quest’s Hero. Banjo and Kazooie went live in the game a few weeks ago, and Terry Bogard will land on the scene in November.

But now, a tweet from voice actor Scott Menville has sent Smash fans into a spiral of speculation. He voices Lloyd Irving, the main character of Tales of Symphonia, which is considered to be a classic GameCube title and one of the most beloved games in the series. Menville said that he’s a part of a ‘cool voice-over project’ that required a Non-Disclosure Agreement, inferring that it’s something of significance.

I wish I could tell you about this cool voice-over project I’ve been working on but they had me sign an NDA,
(Non-Disclosure Agreement)
or as I like to call it, a
“Nope, Don’t Ask.”

Tales of Symphonia is connected to Nintendo, due to its status as a classic GameCube title. And, Bandai Namco assisted in the development of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, so perhaps Bandai Namco characters will be added to the game as extra little ‘thank you’s from Nintendo.

It’s important to iterate that this is a guess, and has not been confirmed by Menville, Bandai Namco, or Nintendo. Menville’s project might not even be a video game, and Nintendo has kept incredibly tight-lipped about who is headed to the fighting game until it’s time to unveil the official announcement. Still, lots of Smash fans would really like to see Lloyd as a fighter, so perhaps Nintendo will take this on board and consider his inclusion in the future.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out now for Nintendo Switch.
