Sandbox create ‘em up Dreams will be supported by Sony well into the future with a ten year plan for the title, as revealed in an interview with PlayStation Asia (via PlayStation LifeStyle).
Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida said that Dreams is one of his ‘favourite projects ever’, and although Dreams is not out of early access yet, the publisher has a plan to oversee the evolution of the creative widget. ‘We have a 10 year vision for Dreams to keep growing with the community’ Yoshida stated. ‘The game allows so much that it’s going to take time for people to get around to be able to create what they want,’ he explained why Dreams has launched in early access and the intensive vision Sony has in store for it.
At the moment, Dreams players are focusing on creation and becoming familiar with its interface, which is what Sony expected. Developers and artists alike have built awesome projects, including a Cyberpunk 2077 demake, the E3 demo of Final Fantasy VII, and a recreation of P.T. These works have provided valuable feedback that will continually improve Dreams, and expand on its capabilities and potential as a game development tool. ‘We are super focused on talking to people who have created… to give feedback to Media Molecule’s team,’ Yoshida said.
Media Molecule has announced that it wants to collaborate with small teams of game developers in Dreams, which is evidently one of the first steps in this 10 year vision. It’s not known what the new hires would be working on, but given the ingenuity of Dreams users, it could be anything their heart desires.
Dreams is currently available in Creator Early Access on PlayStation 4.
