Pokémon Sword and Shield reveals new Let’s Go Gigantamax forms

Pokémon Sword and Shield has shown off a few new Gigantamax forms in a new trailer, and Gigantamaxed Pikachu and Eevee will be unlocked with Let’s Go play records.

The Dynamax and Gigantamax mechanics are totally new to Pokémon Sword and Shield, supersizing the pocket monsters and drastically increases their stats. Only a few Pokémon are capable of Gigantamaxing and their appearance radically alters, and in this new trailer, we got a sneak peek at a select collection.

The Gigantamaxed Pikachu and Eevee are unlocked for Pokémon Sword and Shield players if they have play records of Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, respectively. Chunky Pikachu copies their classic chubby look, and gives them a new move: G-Max Volt Crash which paralyses all opponents on the field. The fluffy and bodacious Eevee gets G-Max Cuddle, and that will infatuate any opposite gender Pokémon.

Another exclusive Gigantamax Pokémon is Meowth. This Meowth is long. It is longgg. Long boi. Anyway, Meowth is coming to those who pre-order Pokémon Sword and Shield as a Mystery Gift. G-Max Gold Rush is its unique Gigantamax ability and this deals damage, confuses opponents, and scatters coins across the field as an in-game cash bonus after the battle ends. Those eligible will be able to claim long cat Meowth between 15 November 2019 to 15 January 2020.

We also got glimpses of Gigantamax Charizard and Gigantamax Butterfree. Gigantamax-able Pokémon will be found in Max Raid Battles in Pokémon Sword and Shield, but they’re still very rare. Gigantamax Charizard makes Daenerys’ Drogon look like a gecko in comparison. Its wings are now aflame and they have a ruff of fire around their neck, as well as new diamond-like markings. Its G-Max Wildfire is searing hot and will continue to burn the opponent for four turns if that Pokémon isn’t Fire type.

Whatever your stance on creepie-crawlies is, it’s undeniable that Gigantamax Butterfree is very cute. Its wings are huge and are a pastel green, which is disarming due to its intense power when Gigantamaxed. Butterfree’s G-Max Befuddle move will disperse butterfly scales onto the opponent which could cause one of three effects: poison, paralysis, or sleep.

Pokémon Sword and Shield will release on November 15 for the Nintendo Switch. A little under one month to go!
