German League of Legends team PENTA 1860 announced a partnership with financial institution Stadtsparkasse München. One of the oldest banks in the country, Stadtsparkasse München is PENTA 1860’s first Munich-based partner.
In addition to having the bank’s logo added to PENTA 1860 team jerseys “from now on,” the two brands will host a number of local events in the Munich area, with the goal of “further promoting” esports.
“Electronic sports is a fascinating new area for us,” Bernd Hochberger, senior executive for digitalization at Stadtsparkasse München said in a release. “This partnership is an important step into the digital future.”
PENTA 1860 has a “neat schedule” of events in and around Munich, as well as some “cool specials,” teased Andreas Schaetzke, managing director at PENTA Sports in a statement. Additional details about these events will be released in the coming months, according to the release.
Additional details regarding the partnership were not disclosed. The release did not specify whether Stadtsparkasse München is the first dedicated sponsor of PENTA 1860 or if it joins PENTA’s other sponsors, which include 20th Century Fox, Cyberport, betting platform Sunmaker, and MMmedia, one of Germany’s biggest cinema merchandise companies.
The PENTA 1860 website also lists AverMedia Technologies, insurninja, and microphone brand Hörluchs as official brand partners.
Formed in January 2019, PENTA 1860 is a joint roster shared by esports organization PENTA Sports and Munich-based sports club TSV München von 1860 e.V. The team’s formation continues a trend of traditional sports teams entering esports by collaborating with established organizations.
