Complexity’s teenage star steps down from the team.
Owen “oBo” Schlatter, the young star of Complexity’s CS:GO roster, has decided to step down from the active lineup. The news was revealed by Complexity CEO Jason Lake during a live-streamed press conference. According to Lake, the 17-year-old originally stated he would return to the United States at the end of ESL Pro League Season 12, though ended up leaving early with little warning.
oBo first signed with Complexity in June of 2019, having made his name as an up-and-coming FPL star in the years prior. Then just 16, oBo attended the StarLadder Berlin Major with the organization a couple of months after his signing. After a poor finish, Jason Lake vowed to rebuild the team into a “juggernaut.” oBo is the only player from that roster to remain on the lineup after the rebuild.

Following the team’s overhaul, oBo and co. began to find more consistent results. The team managed upset victories over Astralis and Vitality in the BLAST Premier Spring Series. They later going on to win the European Spring Finals over the latter. They reached the semi-finals of DreamHack Open Anaheim and DreamHack Open Summer Europe. The team won four straight #HomeSweetHome Cups, each one earning them a $30,000 grand prize.
Though based in Texas, Complexity’s CS:GO roster currently fields three European players. As Lake states in the press conference – the team was meant to live in North America, with occasional boot camps in Europe. The team decided to remain in Europe throughout COVID-19 quarantine, competing in multiple online tournaments since March.
oBo Steps Down
Lake claims that oBo had “expressed reservations” about returning to Europe following the July player break. Since returning to Europe, CoL has competed in DreamHack Open Summer, ESL One Cologne, and is currently set to play in the ESL Pro League Season 12 playoffs later this month.
Lake states in the press conference that oBo announced his decision to return to the United States yesterday. Originally planning to stay through the end of the ESL Pro League playoffs, oBo seemingly made a quick decision to leave the following morning instead. “Yesterday we were sorting out the best way forward from there,” Lake says. “Very early this morning, London time, he informed the team that he was at the airport and that he was returning home.”
Complexity will be helping oBo find a US-based team to compete with while they search for their own fifth. Coach Jamie “Keita” Hall will play with the team until the vacancy is filled. Complexity is next scheduled to compete in the ESL Pro League Season 12 playoffs on September 29.
