Nintendo has announced that it has shipped over 15 million Switch and Switch Lite units in the two years since the original system launched (via WccfTech).
‘Nintendo Switch is a brand-new kind of home gaming system that offers a wide variety of play modes,’ said Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima at the time the Switch was announced. ‘We will introduce the world to new experiences made possible by the unique characteristics of the Nintendo Switch hardware and the Joy-Con.’ With quirky mini-games on the 1-2 Switch and the rolling expanses of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild available at launch, gamers snapped the Switch up.
Since then, titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and even The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt have secured the Switch’s continued success. And, the Nintendo Switch Lite is expected to receive a flurry of sales in November in anticipation for the new Pokémon game.
‘As we enter our third holiday season, Nintendo Switch is creating smiles and enjoying broad appeal, with more than 15 million consumers across North America playing their favorite games whenever and wherever they like,’ Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser announced. ‘And this holiday, we are bringing Nintendo Switch owners even more fresh and unique entertainment experiences, like Ring Fit Adventure, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games: Tokyo 2020, adding to the system’s large and diverse library of games.’
Rich thought Ring Fit Adventure was a ‘gleefully daft’ exergame which makes the player work hard for those gains, in its fantasy world and in the real world. There’s even a nifty hidden Joy-Con feature that shows Nintendo’s given a lot of thought to the Wii Fit successor.
