In yet another expansion of the esports gambling ecosystem, the Nevada Gaming Control Board has granted approval of wagering in relation to the ESL One Rio CS:GO Major 2020 which runs between Nov. 9-22 in Rio de Janeiro. Wagering has been approved for head-to-head, match winners, and who will be the overall winner of the event.
There are still some hurdles to be cleared for the event to be eligible for wagering such as the posting of official rules for the tournament by the event organizer or sanctioning body’s website. Once the tournament is eligible, wagers on the aforementioned events can be made until the commencement of each individual match and once a winner is declared all wagers will stand.
As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to cancel and postpone betting eligible sporting events, casinos and sportsbooks have looked to esports to mitigate the loss of revenue from the lack of traditional sports wagering.
The ESL One: Rio 2020 Major marks yet another high-profile expansion of wagering as the board has approved other prominent events such as the Call of Duty League (CDL), League of Legends Championship Series (LCS), League of Legends European Championship (LEC), Overwatch League, and ESL Pro League.
