Need for Speed Heat had the series’ most successful launch week of this generation, as announced by developer Ghost Games.

#NFSHeat set a new record during the first week with more of you playing this game than any other NFS title this generation. Thanks to our community for bringing the Heat! pic.twitter.com/4BhGpdKsup

The game had gone gold one month before its launch but Ghost Games and EA DICE kept it on the down-low. The statement came with no exclamation point, no emojis, and no photo of the staff doing their best impressions of the Cheshire Cat. They made up for it here though, with a sequence of smiley photos of the team over the years. And, to be honest, the developer and publisher were quite undemonstrative during the new game’s marketing stint.

The official reveal of Need for Speed Heat came in August, though it was speculated to be in development for a while. An EA DICE community manager took to Reddit to introduce the game’s setting, story, and new features, and we got one whizzy preview at Gamescom 2019. Then, the game was released in November. Perhaps this is the trick to encouraging lots and lots of players to pick up your game. Just chill out.

Need for Speed Heat is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
