Major Trio Shake-Ups Ahead Of FNCS Season 5

The European Fortnite scene is changing quickly ahead of the latest competitive season.

News broke last week straight from Fortnite developer Epic Games that all future flagship Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) events in 2021 would remain in the trios format. Theoretically, this crucial competitive update meant that most of the successful trios from Chapter 2 – Season 4 would return for another extended run. The likes of FNCS Champions Kyle “Mongraal” Jackson, Dmitri “mitr0” Van de Vrie and Tai “TaySon” Starčič were first on that list, considering their performance last season. In an unexpected plot twist, it appears that the Chapter 2 – Season 4 winners will not reunite this season. Instead, another intriguing combination of players, including Martin “MrSavage” Foss Andersen and Benjy “benjyfishy” Fish is in the works.

Many competitive Fortnite players and personalities had the highest expectations for the combination of MrSavage, benjyfishy and LeTsHe. The trio formed back in Chapter 2 – Season 3 and won the first Amar Cup trio tournament that season and subsequently claimed the first Trio Cash Cup. Savage, Benjy and LeTsHe continued to produce results through the remainder of Season 3 into Season 4. However, the trios’ reluctance to leave Doom’s Domain during the FNCS Season 4 competition prohibited them from achieving greatness. Savage, Benjy and LeTsHe made the bold decision to fight rival team aqua, Noahreyli and Rezon repeatedly off the spawn, which eventually led to aqua’s ban.

Savage, Benjy and LeTsHe finished the Fortnite Champion Series in eighth, which is not too shabby all things considered. Regardless, LeTsHe confirmed on Twitter that he and LouisFN are looking for a third player to tryout. We know how often the Fortnite competitive scene throws bait out there, but LeTsHe’s tweet seems legitimate. Further confirmation came through via Reddit, where people caught wind that Savage and Benjy were already hosting tryouts for the third spot on their team.

TaySon Leaves Mongraal and mitr0?

This development is a bit less clear, but professional Fortnite player x8 confirmed that TaySon is trying out with Savage and Benjy. Additionally, several people witnessed TaySon playing custom games with aqua and Th0masHD. The presumption here is that TaySon will not return in Season 5 with his championship-winning teammates Mongraal and mitr0. That would mean TaySon could end up with Savage and Benjy or aqua and Th0masHD. It’s important to reiterate that the next FNCS tournament is still two months away, so many of these team changes could continue.

Th0masHD, Anas and Flikk Part Ways

Despite their unlikely comeback during the FNCS Season 4 Finals, Th0masHD, Anas and Flikk confirmed the end of their trio. Flikk, who recently signed with Guild Esports, sent out a “looking for trio tweet,” as did Anas over the weekend. Th0masHD, as mentioned earlier, is workshopping a combination with aqua and TaySon. Unless the experiment goes south, Anas and Flikk are on their own for the time being.

Some other rumors are swirling around the European scene, but nothing tangible. We can expect some trio tournaments to precede FNCS Season 5, which will give competitive Fortnite fans an idea of the different player combinations before the next significant event. In the meantime, it is imperative to keep an eye on social media and streams for new developments.
