Luigi’s Mansion 3 is the UK’s fastest-selling physical Nintendo Switch game of 2019, according to data collected by Ukie (via GamesIndustry.biz).
The soft reboot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare sits comfortably at the top of the pile of physical releases, and Luigi’s Mansion 3 plays second fiddle in second place. Thematically appropriate, I must say. In spite of this, the spooky spring cleaner outperformed the previous entry to the series by a considerable margin. Physical sales of Luigi’s Mansion 3 in its launch week were 140 per cent higher than 2013’s Luigi’s Mansion 2 for the Nintendo 3DS.
Nintendo marketed Luigi’s Mansion 3 a lot, giving it a share of the spotlight at E3 2019 and in a Nintendo Direct in anticipation of the game’s release date. In addition, the game came out on Halloween – or October 31 if you’re no fun – and it’s possible people were feeling the spooky season and picked up Luigi’s Mansion 3 to celebrate.
And, Luigi’s Mansion 3 actually overtook The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Super Mario Maker 2 to become the fastest-selling Switch game of this year in the UK. It should enjoy its time in the sun (or the moon?) while it lasts, as Pokémon Sword and Shield could dethrone it by the end of this month.
Josh played Luigi’s Mansion 3 and he thought it was a cracking game that showed off Next Level Games’ skill with slapstick and silliness. Also, there’s a dog named Polterpup and that is excellent.
