Linger just got disqualified from one of the biggest online events in the world due to a match-fixing scandal.

The OMEGA League is an event that will bring together some of the best teams in the world. It will take place both in Asia and Europe it is hosted by WePlat! Esports and EPIC Esports.

Even though the Europe & CIS regions are definitely more interesting to watch, the Asian region is also pretty cool. Sadly, one of the teams that was supposed to play at the tournament just got disqualified.

What happened?

Statement about the match-fixing allegations and suspension of team Linger. Unfortunately, today we will have only one match of the Asia Divine Division.

Linger was one of the teams that many people considered to be a promising squad of young players. However, the team was found guilty of participating in match-fixing. This is an issue that plagues every sport, and sadly, Dota 2 is no exception.

Following the investigation, WePlay! announced that Linger won’t take part in the OMEGA League: Asia Divine Division. According to the statement, they thought that there was something wrong with the series between Execration and Cignal Ultra as well. Nevertheless, their investigation didn’t show anything out of the ordinary. As a result, they moved on to the next series, which was between Linger and DeMonster.

Unfortunately, it turns out some of the betting companies reported a lot of activity for the second map of this series, where Linger lost. After watching the game carefully, it turned out that Linger lost the game on purpose, which is what prompted the team’s immediate disqualification from the OMEGA League.

After this, the five players won’t be able to take part in any event that’s organized by EPIC Esports and WePlay!. Currently, the ban is only for one year, but it can get a lot worse. If other event organizers also decide to take action against these players, they could remain banned for a long time.

It’s really sad to see match-fixing in a beautiful game, such as Dota 2. However, this is a really big issue, especially among the smaller Dota 2 tournaments. Of course, the main reason for this is the fact that the prize pools are really low.

This is an issue that we’ve also addressed before and we really hope that something can change for the better. We just have to be really careful when we’re watching lower-tier events.

Don’t forget to watch the start of this amazing event. Even though the European region definitely has more big names than Asia, There’s still have loads of amazing teams to watch. If you want to learn more about this event, make sure you follow our Twitter.
