ESL North America announced that LG Electronics has become an official partner for Season 3 of the ESL Mobile Open. LG is the first phone provider and second-ever sponsor for ESL Mobile Open in North America, after founding/presenting sponsor AT&T.
The length of the partnership was not disclosed.
Competitors will play on LG smartphones during the finals at DreamHack Atlanta on Nov. 15. The new LG 68X ThinQ Dual Screen smartphone will be featured on a segment called “Hardware Highlight,” as well as on display. DreamHack Austin attendees will be able to demo the new phone at a dedicated booth as well as participate in free competitions.
The partnership with LG is part of ESL’s “innovative approach” to the mobile esports landscape, Paul Brewer, senior vice president of brand partnerships at ESL, said in a release.
“LG is a terrific example of a global brand making its mark in esports and improving the experience for both players and fans,” said Brewer.
ESL and AT&T launched the ESL Mobile Open this spring, with three seasons taking place throughout 2019 in which players competed in PUBG Mobile, Clash of Clans, and Asphalt 9: Legends. ESL Mobile Open has since expanded to include all of North America.
In May, ESL partnered with Vodafone to launch an international Mobile Open competition series using 5G technology. The new competition attracted Huawei as its phone provider, which promoted its new Huawei Mate 20X 5G smartphones during the Vodafone 5G ESL Mobile Open Grand Finals Sept. 28-29 in Mulan.
