League of Legends: Goldenglue Joins Evil Geniuses, Huni Moves to Starting Roster

Greyson “Goldenglue” Gilmer will join Evil Geniuses (EG) on a one-week trial contract.

Ahead of their week 6 fixtures against Team Liquid and Cloud9, EG has decided to make a roster shakeup. At least, for one week they have. EG will bring in Goldenglue, who’s an American Resident, in place of Italian mid laner Daniele “Jiizuke” Di Mauro. The move allows EG to bring in Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon from the Academy side to replace current starting to laner Colin “Kumo” Zhao.

Goldenglue most recently spent time with Golden Guardians; but was benched in favour of Tanner “Damonte” Damonte, whom they signed from Dignitas.

This will also mark Huni’s first LCS start for EG since joining after Spring Split from Dignitas. Back in early November, it was reported that Huni would be earning $2.3M in guaranteed money over the course of the next two years from his contract with Dignitas. That saga ended when he signed for EG, but Huni has yet to show anything on the LCS stage. EG currently find themselves tied for fourth place with Counter Logic Gaming and FlyQuest.

Not long to impress

The week-long “trial” is going to be a bit of a double test for EG. On the one hand, Goldenglue needs to prove that he’s better than Jiizuke, in order to pick up a starting mid lane spot for the remainder of the Summer Split. Huni will also be in the spotlight as he looks to impress. With matches against Team Liquid and Cloud9 ahead, Goldenglue and Huni will certainly need to hit the rift hot.

The slightly weirder outcome of this comes if Huni impresses but Goldenglue doesn’t. With Huni still a foreign player until 2021, if he manages to perform against TL and C9, it could give Goldenglue more time. Alternatively, it could see EG experiment with other American resident mid lakers, something the region has sorely lacked in recent years.

Regardless, EG needs to keep picking up victories. They find themselves in a strong position as we head into the second half of the split, and a roster change now could be just what they need to secure a playoffs spot. It could also upset the balance of the side and see them struggle.

Huni is clearly the player EG want in the top lane for 2021, so this is likely an experiment to get him into the roster now, as a possible spot at Worlds becomes more likely for the LCS side.
