  • Chinese live streaming platform Huya has signed a three-year deal with Riot Games to broadcast the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK), and to sell sponsorships for all Chinese LCK streams.
  • In the next three years,  streamers and casters partnered with Huya will produce content for the LCK, and work to improve broadcasting technology.
  • Huya currently has 144M monthly active users and 4.9M paying users, according to Huya Q2 financial report.

Live streaming platform Huya has signed a three-year China-exclusive streaming deal with League of Legends publisher Riot Games. As well as agreeing to broadcast the LCK, the game’s top professional competition in South Korea, Huya will represent the LCK in all potential partnerships/sponsorship negotiations for the league’s Chinese streams. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Gao Hongliang, vice president of Huya, stated that the company will work with streamers and casters to produce LCK related content for the league, as well as boosting broadcasting technology to improve image quality and users’ streaming experiences.

This is the first year that Riot Games took charge of the LCK, after years of outsourcing production to South Korean company OGN. Huya was previously the exclusive streaming platform for the LCK in 2018, and is also the only company in China that owns streaming rights to China’s League of Legends Pro League (LPL), North America’s League of Legends Championship Series (LCS), the League of Legends European Championship (LEC), and the League of Legends Master Series (LMS).

As well as being one of the Tencent-backed Chinese streaming companies, Huya is listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market, having raised $180M USD in its 2018 IPO. Recently, it signed multiple partnership deals with western esports organizations and tournament organizers, including Korean esports organization Griffin, North America’s Team Liquid, and Modern Time Group portfolio company ESL.
