According to Esports Observer’s sources, Hector “Hecz” Rodriquez is set to reacquire the OpTic Gaming brand
Current co-owner and CEO of NRG, Hector “Hecz” Rodriquez is reportedly set to reacquire OpTic Gaming. This deal will be separate from any part of the NRG organization. Talks have reportedly been going on for over a month now, and it is rumored that this deal will see Hecz take back the OpTic name and therefore their Call of Duty League spot.
However, this all seems to rely on the Call of Duty League as they expect Rodriguez to sell the CDL spot which comes with the purchase of OpTic Gaming, as he is an owner of the Chicago Huntsmen. So while it seems that Hecz now owns the OpTic Gaming IP, he will need to dissolve any ownership in the Los Angeles CDL spot.
The biggest organization in Call of Duty, OpTic Gaming has been around since 2007. It was at this time that Hecz began with sniping videos himself. Following this, OpTic entered the competitive scene in 2010 and has been a dominant force ever since. They’ve hosted some of the biggest names in Call of Duty competing for the team.
With Hecz being required to divest any ownership in the LA Call of Duty League spot, it is speculated that he may sell to former OpTic player and good friend of his, Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag, Founder and co-owner of 100 Thieves. Given the loophole which the Atlanta FaZe found in naming their organization, 100 Thieves should be able to become the “Los Angeles Thieves” if they are to enter the CDL.
