Google Stadia Founder’s Edition will release on November 19, as revealed by the company today.
Last month, the Founder’s Edition of the Stadia were selling like hot cakes. Hot, plasticy cakes that came with a Chromecast Ultra, limited edition controller, and a three-month Stadia Pro subscription. Google announced that it had not a crumb of the Founder’s Edition left in Europe, and introduced the Premiere Edition instead. This bundled the aforementioned but swapped in a white controller and included the entire collection of Destiny 2.
We knew that games like Borderlands 3, The Elder Scrolls Online, NBA 2K, and more would be playable on Stadia from launch, and the library would be added to on a monthly basis. But, we didn’t know when that launch would be. Today, Google has said ‘save the date’: the Stadia Founder’s Edition will go live on November 19 at 5.00pm BST.
Pre-orders will begin to be shipped in the order that they were received by Google. Once the streaming hardware is on its way to customers, a code will be sent that will activate their Stadia account and Stadia Pro. Stadia Base will hit the shelves in 2020 and will be free, streaming games at 1080p and 60fps. Stadia Pro, priced at $9.99 a month, will offer streaming of its games at 4K resolution with 60fps, HDR and 5.1 Surround Sound.
Quite the collection of industry hotshots are convinced by Stadia. Ubisoft executive Alain Corre that the streaming platform is the ‘start of something big’. ‘We believe that this streaming technology will grow, it’s the real start of streaming technology for games this year,’ he said. ‘It will take time for all the servers to be in place in every way, in every country, but it’s the start of something big in the future.’
