New details have emerged regarding the upcoming Fortnite Champion Series tournament for Chapter 2 – Season 3.
At the end of last season’s FNCS Invitational, the Fortnite broadcast team announced that Chapter 2 – Season 3 would stick with the solo format for the next installment of its most significant tournament series. After much speculation, Fortnite in-game compete tab gave insight about the prize pool, tournament dates, format and platforms involved in Chapter 2 – Season 3’s FNCS tournament.
What is the Chapter 2 – Season 3 Fortnite Champion Series?
Fortnite’s third-ever official Fortnite Champion Series event will utilize the solo format. The tournament is open to all players who reach the Champions division in Arena Mode. After doing so, hopeful competitors will be able to queue into the competition on the official start date. Players will have four qualifiers to compete in, starting on August 1 and ending on August 9. The latest edition will include BOTH console and pc in separate tournaments.
Tournament Format and Dates
Chapter 2 – Season 3’s FNCS is a bit different from what has taken place in the past. Each qualifier grants players three separate rounds of competition. After round three, the top 50 point earners will automatically guarantee themselves a spot in the semi-finals, also known as heats.
Additionally, players will have the opportunity to qualify based on their series points after all four qualifiers. The top point earners who do no place inside the top 50 in any round three will also secure a spot in heats.
The first two sessions of each qualifier will offer players a maximum of seven matches to compete over two hours. Round three of each qualifier will feature six games. You can see all four qualifier dates below:
- FNCS Qualifier 1 – August 1
- FNCS Qualifier 2 – August 2
- FNCS Qualifier 3 – August 8
- FNCS Qualifier 4 – August 9
Epic Games have been consistently tweaking the tournament scoring system with each passing tournament. Some put a heavier emphasis on placement and others lean in favor of elimination points. This time around, elimination and placement points are nearly the same in value. The scoring system for FNCS Chapter 2 – Season 3 is as follows:
- Victory Royale – 3 points
- Top 2 – 1 point
- Top 3 – 1 point
- Top 5 – 1 point
- Top 10 – 1 point
- Top 15 – 1 point
- Top 20 – 1 point
- Top 25 – 1 point
- Top 30 – 1 point
- Top 40 – 1 point
- Top 50 – 1 point
- Top 75 – 1 point
- Each elimination – 1 point
FNCS Chapter 2 – Season 3 will feature a $5 million USD prize pool spread out across all seven regions. The prize pool will cover both the console and PC platforms. Epic Games has not yet released the prize pool breakdown. However, we expect to see one when the official ruleset arrives.
