Final Fantasy 7 Remake Sequels Won’t Drastically Change the Story, Says Producer

“Please assume the story of FF7 will continue as FF7 always has,” says Yoshinori Kitase.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s ending has made more than a few headlines in the last couple of weeks. Without going into spoiler territory, it introduces quite a few interesting new elements that can potentially change the game’s story significantly going forward. Many have predicted that that will indeed be the case with future instalments in the remake project- but according to Square Enix, that isn’t something you have to be worried about.

In an interview in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Ultimania guide book – which is currently available in Japan – the game’s producer Yoshinori Kitase said that Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s sequels won’t be changing the story drastically, and that going forward, fans should assume that the narrative will play out the way it did in the original game (translated by @aitaikimochi on Twitter).

“We’re not drastically changing the story and making it into something completely different than the original,” Kitase said. “Even though it’s a remake, please assume the story of FF7 will continue as FF7 always has.”

Again, given how the first game ends, it should be interesting to see how the story of the sequels plays out, and how it manages to stick to the original game’s story, if it does indeed do that.

Speaking of which, Final Fantasy 7 Remake part 2 is already in development. In this same interview, the developers also spoke about how many parts there will be in total, and how large each of them might be- read more on that through here.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake – the first part – is available now on PS4. You can read our review through here. It crossed 3.5 million units in total worldwide shipments and digital sales within 3 days of its launch.

Quote by Kitase on how different the #FF7R will be from the original story:

“We’re not drastically changing the story and making it into something completely different than the original. Even though it’s a Remake, please assume the story of FF7 will continue as FF7 always has.”
