Publicly traded Esports Entertainment Group (NASDAQ: GMBL) revealed that it sent two executives to testify before the Ohio State Senate Select Committee on Gaming earlier this month concerning a bill that would allow betting on esports in the state.
EEG Chief Financial Officer Dan Marks and Vice President of Strategy Jeff Cohen gave testimony to senators highlighting the popularity of esports within the state and spoke positively on allowing betting on competitions in-person and online.
The sub bill (SB 176), which was introduced last month by Ohio State Sen. Kirk Schuring (R), would create two different types of licenses aimed at casinos and sportsbooks that can already take bets in the state and another aimed at future physical sportsbooks businesses.
EEG mentioned its recent deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers as well as plans to build several Helix Centers and bring its Vie esports betting platform into the state, should the bill pass.
