Electronic Arts seems to have ditched the Skate series because it chose not to renew the Skate trademark this year (via VG247).
VG247 spotted a United States Patent and Trademark Office (UPTO) detail that said the publisher had not responded to a request for correspondence from the UPTO. As a result, the trademark has been abandoned. I’ll speak plainly: it’s not looking good for those who have their fingers crossed for a Skate 4.
Skate 3 was alright, but it established a fanatical following due to the silly ragdoll physics and occasional, unexplainable glitch. In 2017, EA stated that Skate 4 was not in development during a third quarter earnings call, but then the dormant servers kicked back to life before E3 2018. Speculation swirled but EA had nothing to say about Skate at EA Play. The last time the trademark was re-upped was on February 16, 2018.
Pour one out for Skate 4, broskies.
