Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is an open-world action/RPG that lets fans explore the world of Dragon Ball Z while surrounded by familiar characters and events. We’ve known the Frieza saga would be included since the initial announcement, but then Bandai Namco revealed that the Cell saga would also be covered. As the 2019 Tokyo Game Show gets underway, the company has even more surprises in store, including more content, a firm release date, and details about special editions.

First and foremost is the fact that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot launches on January 17, 2020 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. In addition to the Frieza and Cell story arcs, the game also includes the Buu saga, giving players the opportunity to relive plenty of classic material with a modern twist.

Bandai Namco also announced a few incentives to preorder the game; fans who secure their copy in advance gain access to a special sub-quest, an in-game cooking item, and the ability to play content involing the new character Bonyu before it normally opens during the course of the adventure.

When you do buy the game, you have a few options to choose from. If you want more than the base game, you can opt for a deluxe edition that also includes the season pass (the details of which are still vague) and a deluxe cooking item. An ultimate edition includes includes the base game, season pass, a different “ultimate” cooking item, a music compilation, and a unique aerial vehicle to use in-game called the Tao Pai Pai Pillar. Lastly, a collector’s edition comes with the base game, as well as a diorama, art book, and steel case.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot seems to have plenty for fans to look forward to, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see even more reveals leading up to the January release. In the meantime, if you’d rather look back than look ahead, check out our 2018 GOTY (Goku of the Year) awards.
