Doom Eternal has been delayed until March 20, 2020, as announced by the official Doom Twitter account today.

Doom Eternal was initially set to launch on November 22, and ID Software described the newest game in the series as ‘the best thing we’ve ever done’. The developer’s commitment to deliver a game that pushes each and every feature of the Doom experience to the next level is an ambitious one. In order to fulfil its own expectations and the expectations of its fans, ID Software has chosen to delay Doom Eternal’s launch until 2020.

The developer acknowledged that the announcement may be met with disappointment, but it revealed three updates of varying levels of excitement. Firstly, Invasion Mode is a new feature that will drop in a player as a playable demon to someone else’s game. That’ll be added through a free update. Secondly, the Switch version of the game is coming a little bit after March 20, 2020.

And thirdly, Doom 64 will be ported to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC and will be a pre-order addition to all Doom Eternal purchases. ‘We are grateful to every Doom fan for your dedication and support – we can’t wait to rip-and-tear right alongside you,’ ID Software closed its statement.

Doom Eternal was intended to be a launch title for Google Stadia, and expectedly, this is no longer the case. Stadia will arrive with games like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Farming Simulator 19, and Mortal Kombat 11, but Doom Eternal was the big dog. Despite this, the delay imaginably won’t deter consumers, owing that Stadia have been flying off the shelves.
