Studio MDHR has revealed that Cuphead, its looney boss battler with jazzy tunes, has gone five-times platinum and sold five million copies (via MCV).
It’s Cuphead’s second birthday to boot, so happy birthday to you, Cuphead. But, Studio MDHR has turned the tables on us and it will be gifting presents to its players. Five days of giveaways for five million copies. And, as of yesterday, the game is discounted by 20 per cent across all platforms for one whole week. Which is quite lovely, and arithmetically pleasing.
Cuphead turns two today, and we’re so humbled to announce: it has officially gone five-times platinum!!
Starting now, the game is 20% off on all platforms for a full week. And stay tuned, because we have 5 days of fun and giveaways planned to celebrate 5 million copies sold! pic.twitter.com/oe7uTzY62Y

Colm thought the game was devilishly difficult, but couldn’t help but be charmed by the ‘beautiful’ and ‘painstakingly hand-drawn’ art style, and its soundtrack which he considered to be ‘one of the finest in video games’. Lots of people agreed, and it sold about 125,000 copies through Steam in its first few days. Fast forward to December 2017, and it boasted over two million copies sold across all platforms.
That record’s been smashed, and bizarrely enough, an animated TV show based upon Cuphead is coming to Netflix. In July, Studio MDHR said, ‘Coming to you in full color and cine-sound, it’s…The Cuphead Show! Witness the wondrous Inkwell Isles as you’ve never seen them before in an original series inspired by classic animation styles of the 1930s.’
We’ll drink to Cuphead’s continued success. The game is out now for Nintendo Switch, PC, and Xbox One.
