CD Projekt Red Provides Update On Cyberpunk 2077 Refunds

CD Projekt Red states it has started reaching out to players who applied for refunds of Cyberpunk 2077. The game launched as a technical mess on consoles, specifically the base versions of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, causing many disgruntled players to want their money back.

The studio tweeted the following update:

The refund situation has become its own headache with CDPR first encouraging players to get their money back, thus giving some players the impression that the studio communicated with Sony and Microsoft to ensure a smooth refund process. A company conference call revealed the opposite was true and the studio walked back some of that messaging. This meant players were at the mercy of the publishers’ established refund policies (of which Sony’s is more restrictive), and many had their requests denied. Last night, Sony made the decision to remove Cyberpunk 2077 from sale on PlayStation Network while offering refunds to any unhappy players. Microsoft, meanwhile, has gone out of its way to make refunding the game easier.

Cyberpunk 2077 has become a tale of two games. PC players have enjoyed a more stable experience, while console players have endured game crashes, muddy and/or missing textures, stuttering animations, among other bugs that make the game unrecognizable from its pre-release footage (which, as we now know, was shot on PC). CD Projekt Red promises two major patches will arrive in January in February that will hopefully resolve the console version’s biggest issue. Meanwhile, the chaotic mess hasn’t only upset the players base, but has generated conflict within CD Projekt Red internally.

Good luck to those seeking refunds and let us know in the comments how your experience has been.
