Capcom has one or more unannounced games to be exhibited at its booth at Jump Festa 2020, Japan (via Gematsu).
So, the developer will have four playable titles there, including Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection and Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. The final two are a mystery. It’s possible that one of them is an existing title but Capcom hasn’t told the world that it’s coming to Jump Festa 2020. The event would be an extra opportunity to trawl for feedback for Project Resistance, which was demoed at Tokyo Game Show and had a PlayStation 4 beta trial.
Maybe this is it. Maybe this isn’t it. Capcom has stated that it would be interested in remaking or re-releasing its catalogue of classics, on two occasions now. “Our initiatives are to (1) strengthen digital sales, (2) bolster our title lineup through the full-scale execution of our 60-month and 52-week maps and (3) awaken dormant intellectual properties,” it said in its Integrated Report 2019. The developer is thrilled with the success of Resident Evil 2, remade in January of this year. The game shipped 4.2 million units worldwide and earned Resident Evil the title of the company’s best-selling IP yet.
A Resident Evil 3 remake would be a done deal, right? Well, not necessarily. Capcom clarified that remakes are conditional on their popularity with the community, but whispers are swirling that a Nemesis remake is in the works. If this is true, revealing the game at Jump Festa seems impulsive when Capcom could definitely rest on its laurels for a while. It is equally possible that Capcom is coming out with a totally new thing.
Jump Festa 2020 begins on December 21 through to December 22, in Chiba, Japan. We’ll get a proper confirmation then and there, but it’s possible that the developer drops hints and teases up until that date. Keep a look out!
