Call of Duty: Modern Warfare announces a new operator, Minotaur

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has revealed a first look at a new operator coming to the next game, Minotaur (via Charlie Intel).

Minotaur is a member of Spetsnaz, a paramilitary faction of anti-terrorist operators ancillary to the Russian armed forces. Expectedly, this is all the information we have at the moment, but it is worth speculating why he’s named for a Greek mythological monster. The Brosnya is a draconic beast that devoured soldiers and horses, and swallowed a German fighter plane in World War II. Nav is either a vengeful spirit jealous of humans and their life force, or the name of the Slavonic underworld. Surely these two suggestions are better than the half-bull, half-man hybrid that everyone knows dies at the hands of the hero Theseus.

Operators are classes that are integral to Modern Warfare’s multiplayer mode, with their own narrative, voice lines, and customisation options. However Operators will not use unique abilities, unlike the Specialist characters in Black Ops 4, which should lead to a balanced and even meta. Differences between Operators are purely a cosmetic affair, so dress your Minotaur to the nines.

Minotaur will go live in the Modern Warfare PlayStation 4 beta this evening for those who have Early Access. It begins at 6.00pm BST, and the open beta will start on September 14 and end on September 23. The second weekend of beta starts on September 19 for early access players on Xbox One and PC. The final cross play open beta for all platforms starts on September 21 and ends on September 23.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launches for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on October 25.
