Yes, it’s Black Friday CPU deals time people! Oh yes, the blackest of all Fridays is now upon us, November is almost over, and etailers across the globe are slashing prices all over the shop. While it might not necessarily mean you can get the latest and greatest processors of all time at severely discounted rates – though there are still some bargains to be had on modern silicon – it does mean that last-gen chips can be had for peanuts.
And there ain’t nothing wrong with last-gen silicon, especially when we’re talking about PC processors. In gaming terms CPU performance hasn’t changed things dramatically over the past few years, and with a resurgent AMD now very much back in the game there are a lot more options for the discerning PC gamer to build a new rig around.
The second-gen Ryzen CPUs were a genuine improvement over their first-gen forebears, and are now on sale for honestly ridiculous prices. If we’d told you just a couple of years ago that you would be able to buy a high-performance, eight-core. 16-thread CPU for less than $200 you’d have had us committed.
The fact that you can find some of the best CPUs for gaming at such discounted rates is astonishing, and that means Black Friday is now one of the best times for either making an upgrade to your existing gaming PC, or building an entire new one.
But it’s still worth treating Black Friday PC deals with caution, however, as for every octa-core bargain, there is a silicon dud waiting to sully your Amazon basket. Do your research… or trust us experts… know what chip you’re after, and make sure you pay attention to whether it really is a good deal or not. The price-tracking site, CamelCamelCamel is a great way to see whether prices are really as bargainous as they seem.
