German automobile manufacturer Audi has announced a partnership with Future FC, the newly-formed FIFA team from Astralis Group, the company behind teams Astralis and Origen.
Audi and Astralis have history together, with the carmaker sponsoring the Astralis Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) team in early 2017 and then from Nov. 2017 to Nov. 2018. Opting to shift away from first-person shooters, Audi then announced a three-year deal with League of Legends team Origen in January 2019.
Danish news agency Ritzau reports that the deal with Audi is a three-year agreement with a value to Future FC of at least $1M per year. Audi is the first marketing partner of Future FC, which was announced in late August and has signed its first player ahead of upcoming FIFA 20 competitions.
“Future FC is a new and exciting chapter in Audi’s collaboration with the Astralis Group, where we naturally build on the explosive development and digital opportunities that esports has already given us,” said Audi Denmark head of marketing Morten Friis-Olsen, in a release. “The collaboration on Future FC based on the FIFA game and all its users and fans is extremely relevant and attractive to Audi, as sports and especially football partnerships are inherent in our DNA—and not least as an extension of our ambition to be an active and attractive part of an innovative world exposed to fantastic experiences.”
Astralis and Origen were recently spun off from RFRSH Entertainment into a separate company called Astralis Group. This was done in an effort to address growing conflict-of-interest concerns regarding RFRSH’s BLAST Pro Series CS:GO tournaments. Many RFRSH Entertainment employees transitioned over to the new company, including co-founder Jakob Lund Kristensen, now chief commercial officer of Astralis Group.
