Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will use gruesome ‘X-ray assassinations’ in battles, like the ones in Sniper Elite and Mortal Kombat.

Game Director @BenoitRicher has confirmed that (for lack of a better term) “X-ray assassinations” were not just part of the #AssassinsCreed Valhalla gameplay trailer, but will be part of the gameplay and be player trigged!

Benoit Richer, the director of the upcoming entry to the series, confirmed that the x-ray kill seen in the gameplay trailer will also be a player-triggered feature in the game. Valhalla’s combat looks like it’s drawing even more inspiration from the Souls series, with stamina bars for Eivor and their enemies, as well as stun attacks. Eivor can even stomp on a downed enemy’s skull to deal damage before they get back up. Finally, it is known that Eivor is able to dual wield anything they get their hands on, including two shields if that’s what they fancy. All in all, Valhalla is letting players forge their own path when it comes to the exploration and invasion of England, from haircuts to halberds.

Some fans are excited for this addition, and others are lukewarm towards it. To be honest, Vikings and assassins do adopt dissimilar approaches, with the former being much louder and bolder than the other who favours silence and shadows. “Now this is phenomenal!!! Man the assassinations will feeel so much more satisfying now with the bones crunching sound and visuals. This game keeps getting better and better,” said Reddit user Rredemption47. Conversely, Onyx7149 said: “As long as I can toggle it on and off I’m fine with it. I gotta be able to watch any enemies that could potentially see me and a cutscene like that could be a real hindrance.”

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla comes to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on November 17.
