Anthem will scrap its post-launch content to fix the game’s ‘core issues’

BioWare has announced that Anthem’s planned post-launch content will be put on hold while its team works on the ‘core issues’ present in the game (via Eurogamer).

As stated in a post on the company’s blog, head of live service Chad Robertson revealed the news to update players with what is next for Anthem after the Cataclysm event ends. The community response to Cataclysm is very important to the developer, and Robertson cited it as the ‘invaluable’ driving force behind Anthem’s improvements. But, he said that the Act structure for Anthem will be ditched in favour of addressing the continual problems found in the Public Test Server.

‘Seasonal updates’ will become the new approach to supporting Anthem’s post-launch longevity, rather than Acts. There would have been three of these Acts, kicking off with the Echoes of Reality that was scheduled to begin in March but slid to due to technical hiccups. The Acts would have updated the game with quality of life fixes along with new environments and missions for players, leading up to an epic Cataclysm event.

‘We hear your concerns on core issues in Anthem and are acting on it. Those systems require a more thorough review and re-working versus quick fixes,’ Robertson stated. ‘We want to be transparent with you that we know more work needs to be done to make Anthem better. We also want to ensure we’re backing up our words with a great game you can play.’

Robertson was reticent regarding the future of the sci-fi shooter: ‘I don’t have any news today to share about the long-term changes we are bringing to Anthem.’ Initial results are ‘promising’, and he concluded with the affirmation that BioWare will ‘continue to engage with you, our community’ to keep players in the loop.

Anthem is out now for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.
