A glitchy Pokémon has been seen on the official Pokémon Sword and Shield website, and speculation abounded about who or what the new Fighting type ‘mon could be.
I think it looks like a knight. It seems to be holding a lance, and appears to be wearing a helmet. This would tally with its Fighting type, and its ability Steadfast boosts a Pokémon’s Speed each time it is flinched. I’m envisioning a foolhardy Pokémon that becomes increasingly bold and brave in battle, a throwback to the gallantry of Galar in the medieval age.
Some are speculating that this new Pokémon is the next evolution of Farfetch’d. It’s a Normal and Flying Pokémon that is exceptionally attached to its leek, using it as a weapon. If you turn the image of this glitchy Pokémon on its side, it looks kind of like yellow-billed bird holding a green shield and white and green spear. Farfetch’d could become Sir Fetch’d, upgrading its leek to a lance and attaining a royally-ordained sense of self-importance. This is supported once again by the Pokémon’s cryptic description, ‘Only ______ that have survived many battles can attain this ______ When this Pokémon’s ______ ______ers, it will retire from combat.’ Fans think that ‘when this Pokémon’s leek shatters’ is a likely solution, and to shatter the opposing knight’s lance in a joust is to win the match.
A Galarian form of an existing Pokémon is not out of the question, either. Galarian Cubone is a possibility, as that ‘mon has a skull helmet that looks very like the image shown. However, in Pokémon Sun and Moon, Cubone will evolve into a Alolan Fire and Ghost Marowak. Given that Galarian Zigzagoon is Zigzagoon’s first regional variant, it would seem a little excessive to give Cubone two regional evolutions.
For now, we will have to wait until the glitches disappear and unveil the new Pokémon. Pokémon Sword and Shield has a number of exciting new features, including a curry minigame and camping, and may finally add an autosave feature to the long-standing series.
